Upon graduation, the student is also prepared for the assessment process by the Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition toward achieving the Child Development Associate (CDA) national credential. Obtaining the CDA qualification will allow the student to teach skills and regulations to child care employees in 46 different states and also in Washington DC. School environments, day care centers, licensed day care homes and childcare areas offer careers in this field. The Early Childhood Education – Associate of Applied Science DegreeAssociate of Applied Science Degree prepares the student for possible careers as a childcare program director, a preschool teacher, a teacher assistant, or a family child care manager. Students learn to plan and organize age appropriate curricula and environments for infants, toddlers, preschool age children, and school-age children. The difficulties faced by the early childhood teachers in this contemporary profession are discussed in this program. The student is made aware of the qualifications, qualities, skills, and practices necessary for becoming a teacher of small children. The course provides students with several hours of hands-on experience within a variety of child care settings. This program prepares the student for the Child Development Associate (CDA) assessment process, the national credential recognized by the Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition. Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education – Level Change Postbaccalaureate CertificateThis course provides teachers with the knowledge and skills required to add both an elementary and an early childhood endorsement to an already existing Michigan secondary teaching certificate, thus allowing the ability to teach all subjects in kindergarten through grade 5 and in kindergarten through grade 8 in self-contained classrooms. The level change program might lengthen the validity of current endorsements to additional grade levels. Students, in order to work with elementary students, have to complete early childhood minors and elementary studies and a section of the professional education core. After the student has completed the program and has passed the required state test, they will be qualified to begin applying for the endorsements. |
